Student Access To Campus (Restriction Process)
1) A recommendation to ban a student will be presented to the Dean of Students. This recommendation should include the reasons for the request and available evidence. 2) The Dean of Students will consider all information available and make a decision regarding the recommendation. If the decision does not result in a ban of the student from campus and a violation of the Honor Code has occurred, the information will be passed to the Honor Code Office for investigation or resolution. 3) If the decision is to deny the student access to campus, the student will be notified by the Office of the Dean of Students. A ban from campus automatically includes a suspension from attending classes until the ban is lifted. 4) The student may ask that the decision made by the Dean of Students be reviewed. The student's request must be completed in writing and received by the Office of the Dean of Students, Brigham Young University, 3500 WSC, Provo, Utah 84602 within three days of receiving notification of the ban/suspension. If the student must deliver the request personally, he or she will contact the Dean's office to receive special authorization to access campus prior to doing so. If authorization is granted, the Dean's office will coordinate the banned student's presence on campus with the University Police. The ban from campus remains in effect during the review process.
5) The Dean of Students will process the request for review to the Vice
President of Student Life. The Vice President's decision is final with no
further recourse. Bans from campus are generally permanent. Any request for modification to or the lifting of the ban will be presented to the Dean of Students who has sole discretion in making a determination. *Individuals who are not students of BYU may be banned from or denied access to BYU Campus. Review of those bans are handled by the Campus Access Committee.Updated September 2003 |
